Welcome to SMWorks! Here, you'll find my personal works, primarily my photography and music-related projects that I create. On the photography side, you'll find plenty lots of photo and info about railroads and the fascinating pieces of equipment they use or used, while for music I present the mixes and DJ sets that I play out with my favourite songs.
SMWorks has been around since about 2014, but it's undergone some pretty substantial changes since its creation!
If you're an older visitor of the site, you might remember what used to be the main focus here: Trainz Simulator content. That's all still here, just now Legacy content. Trainz content creation has been discontinued and there's nothing new to be added there - instead, things have moved on.
Now, SMWorks is dedicated to other, newer, better projects. Right now, photography and DJing are the main focuses, but like anything in life, things are subject to change, and as such, there are more things that may well make their way onto the site in time. What's here now is here to stay, but there is more to come! In particular, photo prints will be added soon this year, as well as in depth galleries and albums relating to various collections of photos, based on trips, photo subjects, and other events!
There's plenty to check out now and in the future at SMWorks!
Hello! I'm SM! My real name is Leo, though I tend to use the name SM online for the overwhelming majority of things. I am a college student in Champaign, IL - specifically at Parkland College - and I fill whatever spare time I have on my hobbies, specifically photography and music. I am also
an Adobe Certified Associate in Visual Design Using Photoshop!
I've been shooting photos for around five years, but only in the last two or two and a half years have I started to get serious about it - taking classes, upgrading my equipment, etc. I post fewer photos not because I don't take enough but because between now and, well, five years ago, my quality standards have increased quite a bit. I don't claim to be a professional but I'm not quite a complete amateur either. At the end of the day, I want to take a photo that just plain looks good! My best work has historically gone solely to my Flickr page, but now SMWorks is being added to that list, too.
Meanwhile, music is a much more recent development. Of course, I've been listening for years and years - since before I can remember, really - but what started as a joke in 2017 turned into a long, strange story that somehow brought me here. Before spending any money on expensive equipment, I learned the basics of DJing on a completely digital mixer until PioneerDJ unveiled a new line of physical mixers that were affordable and made for someone like me. Since 2018, I've been DJing my favourite songs almost on the daily and uploading mixes that I'm happy with onto a few outlets online - and now, here.
Outside of photography and DJing, I collect vinyl records and sometimes bits of railroad history among other little things. I also play a few online games once in a great while, and I write a whole bunch of stuff, both real and not. Previously, a train simulator game I once played is what inspired me to create SMWorks, where my name online had only just changed to SM and I wanted a place to put my work... thus, SMWorks was born.
